eBay Data Breach: In yet another report of a big company losing information about its users, eBay announced on Wednesday that a database containing usernames and passwords was hacked and all users should consider their log in information compromised.

According to a company spokesperson, there is “no evidence that any financial information was accessed or compromised.”

However, eBay did say that in addition to usernames and passwords, criminals also obtained physical addresses, phones numbers and dates of birth.

For those that may not know, eBay also owns the online payment company PayPal.  While they say that the information for PayPal is stored on a separate network and that all of its data is encrypted, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to also change the password for PayPal at the same time, especially if the passwords for eBay and PayPal matched.

The hacking of eBay should be taken very seriously.  The site has 128 million users and is yet another instance of a major corporation losing its customers data.  The eBay data breach could end up being the largest hack ever, surpassing the 110 million believe to have been affected in the recent Target data breach.
